The failures of leading with fear…. How our leaders got it wrong in a pandemic.

It’s spring in Australia, 2021 in the middle of our 3rd wave of the COVID 19 pandemic nationally, and for the third time in a row, our political leaders have yet again failed to step into modern, 21st century leadership.

This is a classic example of what happens when leaders “try not to lose”, they work hard to hold onto their power, their jobs, becoming myopic to the outcomes that will see them stay in power and ultimately reactive in their strategy. A short term emotionally charged strategy ultimately based on fear.

I think we can all agree that you've had some success. What in most of your cases started out as a business model to connect people to each other and information; the evolution of your platforms has been nothing but revolutionary. To have one of these platforms in a generation would have been massive, but to have all 4 of you at the same time is universally huge. HOWEVER... we are now at a cross roads where you all need to make a decision. Do you continue on your current path... or do you step up and take real leadership.

Leading Through… a new paradigm to lead great teams to amazing outcomes.

Recently I was invited to deliver a key note to a motivated group of Monash University students in Melbourne, via my office here on the Gold Coast and our good old friend Zoom. The topic requested was to give the students an introduction to some of the basic fundamentals of leadership. In trying to come up with something useful yet more ‘my style’ and what leadership (at the basics) means to me, and how I’ve seen it work well in teams I’ve worked with.

So I came up with the topic of Leading Through. Based on reviewing recent work I’ve done with teams on culture and leadership rebuilds.

What is it about us humans that we need to have a human connection to make something “feel” more real. OR how can something hit us on such a deep level that the very same Human connection we normally crave; is not needed. Perhaps as a brand this is the pinnacle of having “brand value” or presence or just Brand as a whole.

5 things I learnt from running 5 events in 5 cities in 5 months; as SEVENTEENx toured Australia with Zero budget and no plans other than…. let’s see what happens; this created a huge amount of learning opportunities... but here are 5 of the lessons that come to mind now it's all over...and 2020 tour planning begins.
